Druid in World of Warcraft: Forever
Shapeshifting for every role: Bear tanks, Cat and Moonkin deal damage, Restoration heals, and the Skyborne bring new forms of their own. How the Druid plays in Classic's design, who can play one in Forever, what Blizzard has said, and what we will check in the beta.

The short answer
The Druid is Classic’s shapeshifter: a caster that becomes a Bear to tank, a Cat to deal damage, a Moonkin to cast, and stays a Druid to heal. Classic gave it to two races; Forever adds a third, the Skyborne, with “new Skyborne druid forms created specifically for the race” . Everything below describes the class as Classic shipped it; the beta opens September 17, and this page changes as we play.

Classic's pairings per Wowhead — Classic races database and Warcraft Wiki — Playable race , checked 2026-09-13; Blizzard has not restated them for Forever and has not published the full list of additions. Pairings marked new are the ones Blizzard or its trailer has shown. Filter all nine classes in the class picker .
How it plays
- Forms with their own resources. Bear runs on rage, Cat on energy and combo points, the caster and Moonkin on mana. Shifting costs mana and breaks roots and snares, which is the Druid’s escape.
- Forms by level. Bear at 10, Aquatic from a level 16 quest, Cat at 20, Travel at 30, Dire Bear at 40, and Moonkin from the Balance tree.
- Healing over time. Rejuvenation and Regrowth alongside Healing Touch, and two spells no other class has: Innervate to refill a healer’s mana and Rebirth to raise someone mid-fight.
- Mark of the Wild. The stat buff every group wants, and Thorns on the tank.
- Leather in every form. Armor multiplies in Bear form, which is how a leather-wearer tanks; the rest of the time the Druid is as soft as a Rogue.
Leveling
Slow before 20 and quick after it: Cat Form turns the Druid into a Rogue with a heal, and Travel Form at 30 is the fastest ground movement before a mount. Heal in caster form, fight in Cat, shift to Bear when a pull goes wrong. Aquatic Form’s quest at 16 is worth doing early for the water.
What Forever changes
-
Skyborne Druids get “new Skyborne druid forms created specifically for the race.” Wowhead’s first look showed sky-blue Bear, Cat, Travel and Moonkin forms and no Tree form.

Improved Mark of the Wild becomes baseline for the class rather than a talent; Blizzard names it alongside Divine Spirit and Blessing of Kings as key buffs that no longer cost talent points.

-
Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap names six new race and class combinations: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin, “with more planned for future updates.”

Talent trees keep Classic’s structure: the same number of rows, milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, and a new 16-point milestone. Some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12, some adjusted, and key class buffs (Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild) are now baseline. Each race gets two active and two passive racial abilities, reworked to be stronger and more distinct.

Combat keeps Classic’s pace: an ordinary creature takes a solo player “roughly 10–15 seconds to defeat,” crowd control still matters in dungeons, and damage dealers still respect threat. Spell, melee and ranged hit chance are combined into one stat, as are the three crit chances. Paladins are the first class detailed; “more class and race details are planned through future videos and articles.”

Blizzard: class identity “remains central,” with “new abilities, new race and class combinations, and updates designed to preserve the feel of the original game.” The updates “focus on talents and abilities you notice, meaningful trade-offs, and reasons to value what each class brings.”

The Battle.net Shop describes “updated class design” and “an expanded list of race and class options, including Dwarf Shaman and Forsaken Paladin.”

What we will check in the beta
- The Skyborne forms in play: Bear, Cat, Travel, Moonkin, and whether there is an Aquatic form and a Tree form.
- Where a Skyborne Druid trains, and whether Moonglade and the form quests changed.
- Any new abilities or talent changes in Balance, Feral and Restoration, against the Classic baseline.
- Whether Feral tanking and Cat damage got the trade-offs Blizzard describes.
- Innervate and Rebirth: unchanged, or reworked.
Frequently asked
- Can a Skyborne be a Druid in Forever?
- Yes, whichever faction they choose, and with forms made for the race: Blizzard's recap promises new Skyborne druid forms created specifically for the race, and Wowhead's first look showed sky-blue Bear, Cat, Travel and Moonkin forms.
- Is the Druid a tank, a healer or a damage dealer?
- All three by form, and in Classic raids mostly a healer with Innervate and Rebirth to hand out. Bear tanks dungeons well; Cat and Moonkin damage lag at 60. Whether Forever's updated class design lifts the other roles is one of the first things we will check.
- When does the Druid get Cat Form?
- Level 20 in Classic, after Bear at 10 and the Aquatic Form quest at 16. Travel Form comes at 30 and Dire Bear at 40; Moonkin is a Balance talent at 31 points.
